Juegaterapia and The Garden of Peace
We reopened the Garden of my Hospi in La Paz after the Pandemic
The Juegaterapia Foundation and Hospital Universitario La Paz de Madrid project reopens its play area for hospitalised children. The Jardín de mi Hospi has been reopened and remodelled with the collaboration of the artist Antonyo Marest. Several decorative elements of the Garden, located on the roof of the Children's Hospital, have also been restored.
El Jardín de mi Hospi was designed by the architecture studio A-cero, directed by Joaquín Torres, who managed to combine a relaxing but also very cheerful green space designed for the little ones to have fun. A fun and winding colourful path runs along the entire rooftop so that children can move around the garden without difficulty. It is surrounded by brightly coloured children's figures and the ground is made of artificial grass. There are also trees, benches, swings and playgrounds for children and their families to play and have fun.
With the passage of time, the garden needed a makeover, which has been made possible thanks to funding from Chubb European Group SE and the profits from the sale of the Baby Pelones. In addition, the Juegaterapia Foundation has worked with Antonyo Marest, an international artist, who has designed the mural for the garden in a supportive and totally disinterested manner.
Mónica Esteban, president and founder of the Juegaterapia Foundation explains that "with the reopening today of this garden we are giving children the opportunity to play, to have fun and to forget about their illness after so long closed due to the pandemic".
About Juegaterapia
The Foundation
The Juegaterapia Foundation helps children with cancer through games. It collects game consoles that people no longer use and distributes them to paediatric oncology rooms in Spanish hospitals so that children can spend their chemo cycles playing and forget about their illness. In Spain, it has already delivered consoles to 76 hospitals and also to hospitals in Portugal, Morocco, Colombia, El Salvador, Afghanistan, India, Guinea and Guatemala.
Projects
El Jardín de mi Hospi is an initiative of Juegaterapia, a pioneer in Spain, which consists of recovering disused hospital rooftops and converting them into gardens so that all children in hospital can play outdoors. It has already built three: La Paz Hospital and 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid, and La Fe Hospital in Valencia. The fourth is already under construction at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid.
The Baby Pelones
They wear a headscarf, with designs by ambassadors of the foundation such as Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Richard Gere, David Bisbal and María and Jorge, two little fighters. 1,000,000 have already been sold in five years and the proceeds have enabled the opening of two biannual research grants of 100,000 euros at the CNIO against childhood cancer. They are available in Spain and Portugal at Juegettos, El Corte Inglés, Amazon, Toys R'Us; as well as Gocco, Drim in Spain; on some Iberia flights; La Giraffa and Rocco Giocattoli in Italy; and Sanborns in Mexico.
The Baby Pelones
The Baby Pelones are an original idea of Juegaterapia and are "the cutest dolls in the world" because they are inspired by the children fighting the disease.
